THREE FACES FROM EIGHT, a photo from Goias, Center-West

Photographer's Note

Here we can see the interior of the small Church of Our Lady of Good Death. Unfortunately its main altar was destroyed by the fire around 100 years ago.
As I told you before this is now a museum and you can see some samples of sculpture of the most important local artist, named Veiga Valle, in the lower part of the compo. The small sculpture I presented before is visible in the altar at right.
This nave has eight faces and a white roof with a big chandelier. That balconies for the rich people was very usual in Brazilian churches of colonial times. In the main altar you can see the coffin of Saint Mary and above it is an open arch with the crucifixe.

Vemos aqui o pequeno interior da Igreja de NS da Boa Morte. Infelizmente o altar-mor foi perdido num incęndio há cerca de cem anos.
Como já mencionei antes, essa pequena igreja é agora um museu onde se destacam as peças do maior artista barroco goiano, Veiga Valle, dispostas na parte baixa da fotografia, posicionadas sobre pedestais. A pequena imagem que mostrei antes está no parapeito do altar do lado direito.
Essa nave tem oito faces e um teto branco de onde pende um grande lustre. Aquelas sacadas altas săo comuns nas igrejas coloniais e é onde ficavam os visitantes mais ricos e especiais. No altar vemos o esquife com o corpo de Santa Maria e acima um arco aberto com o crucifixo.

Hi Jorge,
Whatever was left from the fire seems well maintained for the tourists to admire.
The bright colors make the interior more positive and easier to photograph as well.

Hi Jorge,

The tight frame is putting the altars in evidence. The point of view is showing the details of the statues and of the altars. The surrounding light has a good effect on the colors. Have a nice day.

Although a museum, the contents have been presented in a sensitive way, so that they create the atmosphere of a church.
You have done well cropping the scene to give a very symmetrical composition.

One can see that it is now a museum with these statues here and there. Indeed, on the right altar, I see the figure of Mary in a real robe. Thanks for the name of this kind of art and an explanation.

Hello Jorge,
I guess it is better to use a de-consecrated church building as a museum of religious art than say, a bar (as I saw in a photo from England).
