Tiradentes is a small but well managed historic and touristic city far around 330Km from Rio de Janeiro and less than 200Km from Belo Horizonte.

The former name of the city was São José del Rey and it was changed as soon as Brazil adopted the Republic instead of the Monarchy to "Tiradentes", a national hero who was born there.

Tiradentes had an estimated population of 6,000 in 2004. The original village was established in 1702 and become a city on 1718.
