Igreja Matriz de Piedade do Paraopeba, a photo from Minas Gerais, Southeast

Photographer's Note

A expediçăo do bandeirante Fernăo Dias teria passado pela regiăo de Piedade do Paraopeba ainda em
1674, criando ali pontos de apoio para a exploraçăo do território.

Esses pontos de apoio podem ser considerados os primeiros povoados mineiros, sendo o mais antigo o de Ibituruna, criado ainda em 1674. No ano seguinte foi a vez de Săo Pedro do Paraopeba (hoje se chama Santana, um distrito do município de Moeda). O terceiro teria sido justamente Piedade do Paraopeba, onde está localizada a igreja fotografada.

É bem provável que a primeira capela dedicada a Nossa Senhora da Piedade tenha sido erigida ainda nas décadas finais do séc. XVII. No início do século XVIII, com o avanço da ocupaçăo da regiăo, a capela possivelmente passou por melhoramentos, tendo sido reconstruída ao menos uma vez. Uma viga de madeira com a inscriçăo 1713 em algarismos romanos encontrada possivelmente se refira ŕ data da primeira reconstruçăo da capela.

Ola Luis,
The 18th century church is situated within a natural forest, the designers thought of bringing Portuguese style to Brazil green forest - and they must did this successfully.
Taken from a higher perspective, with good contrast to the surrounding, fine clarity and well managed the shaded part.

vc escolheu um ângulo diferente, tomando a vista pela parte de trás da linda igreja colonial. gostei do resultado com belo contraste entre a arquitetura e a serra coberta de matas. lindos detalhes. bem feito.

Hello Luis,
The old church has a modest but attractive style and very distinct brown roofs. You put it nicely on a diagonal and the green mountains provide a perfect background. The photo is very well exposed with a fine clarity in the shady and sunny areas.

great architecture, great point of view. great perspective from above which allows you to show the church in the context of green environment.
Pity that the light was already less optimal. The main attraction seems to be hidden in the valley between lush vegetation in a deep shadow. I suppose a tiny bit sooner this could be much more impressive.

I wonder if you took this picture of this lovely old church with its traditional lay out in the evening with the church already in the shadow of the mountains of forest or if just a cloud is responsible for the contrast with the sunny landscape behind. This devision of sun and shadow gives the image a special character.

Linda foto desta igreja no meio desta verdura luxuriante, apesar da fraca luz sobre o edifício destaca-se na sua beleza e grandeza. As montanhas ao fundo criam uma ideia de isolamento dando maior destaque ao ponto central da imagem. Larga historia la del asentamiento de esta iglesia, muy atrayente con la combinacion de los colores blanco y azul, su situacion parece ser en una zona profunda rodeada de montańas y gran vegetacion.
Colorido, nitidez y luminosidad están captadas excelentemente.
Muy buena composición, magnífica presentación.
