Photographer's Note

The Rideau Canal, also known as the Rideau Waterway, connects the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada on the Ottawa River to the city of Kingston, Ontario on Lake Ontario. The canal was opened in 1832 as protection against American aggression and is still in use today, with most of its original structures intact.

I took this shot on Rememberance Day 2008, having watched the ceremony at the Cenotaph, I returned later that afternoon to take some photos of the memorial covered in a sea of poppies (will probably upload one of those tomorrow). On my way back, I stopped to take this photo.

I like how the series of locks lead you into the picture towards the boat in dry dock at the end and I also really like the ducks swimming in the remaining bits of water in each lock as I think it adds some life to it.

Minimal PP, just levels, saturation, contrast and a simple frame.

As always, please let me know what you think.
