Photographer's Note

The city of Bergen once had an extensive tram system. New Year`s Eve 1965 the last line was closed down. Seven years after, in 1972, the municipality of Bergen merged together with four of the smaller surrounding municipalities. A fact that lead to the wish for a better collective transportation system.

In 2005, after years and years with discussions and public debate, from the premature 70`s, the new line, which is one of several future enacted built with funding. Finnaly the Bergen Light Rail was opened June 22, 2010.

The first line runs from the city center to Nesttun, 10 kilometers south of the city center. The next two phases will lead the Bergen Light Rail to the Bergen Airport in the year 2015.

The wagons are built by the German company Stadler Pankow. Each set has a capacity of 212 passengers. The weight is 40 tons and the length is 32 meters.
