Castle of Sigournais du 15th century.

The castle of the 15th century was rebuilt in 1490, on the foundations of a castle of the 12th century, built on a Motte-and-bailey existing probably from 1050. It is classified as Historic Monument.
The castle of Sigournais testifies of the military architecture of the Middle Ages. Nine towers, the height of which was reduced, were originally distributed on the fortifications which include a chatelet. We reached the castle by two drawbridges.

SIGOURNAIS is a French municipality, situated in the department of Vendée of the region Pays de la Loire, populated with 848 Sigournaisiens in 2007, distributed on 18.3 km², that is 46,3 hab/km².
