Draw a line between Jamaica and Belize, and you'll find these two islands just south of that line. Owned by Honduras, the Islas del Cisne (Swan Islands) are pretty small, the large island is less than two miles long. The runway is 1400m (4600ft) long, to give you a sense of scale.

Ownership of the islands has changed hands numerous times since Columbus wandered across them at the beginning of the 16th century. Mid to late 19th century the island experienced mining of guano, early 20th century a US weather station was established, the cold war era saw a 50kW transmitter run by the CIA, and nowadays it seems a resort is on the verge of being built there. Currently though, it looks to be occupied merely by a small Hondurian military outpost.
