Selling handicrafts..., a photo from Chian Rai, North

Photographer's Note

In the same Karen village, where I found the woman of my last post.
It was a nice village, where it was even possible to find a church (some Karen are Christian).
People are really nice there and it's possible to walk around, see their daily life and talk to them. Some of the houses have some handicrafts ready to sell the tourists who visit them.

In a way, Ana, you have an interesting statement on custom and consumerism in clothing here. This young Karen girl is selling authentic handicrafts, but to foreign tourists who will buy them as gifts or baubles to show people back home. Meanwhile, the girl herself is wearing a western-style T-shirt as she models the headwear. An interesting juxtaposition...

I would like to buy such cap of Akkha people. But it must be quite expensice. beautiful young girl, looking so innocent. She must have hard life, selling the goods. fascinating place around Chiang Rai.

A fascinating view of the life cycle of these crafts, all the way through the spinning, the making of material, and here, the finished goods on sale. They look pretty cool too! They might not suit my particular head, but they certainly look great on the local girl wearing hers. She looks very proud of her work, and rightly so. It makes a wonderful stand display, and a wonderful photo..

Hi Anabela,

A brillant photo. I am really impressed by the crispness and the clarity of it. The lighting was obviously very advantageous with perfect light on the girl and her merchandise. Also a very colourful scene. TFS and have a nice evening!
