Photographer's Note
This was taken at sunrise with the sun to my back. For about 20-30 seconds at the right time of year the light is quite red, exaggerating the red rock that makes up the Alabama hills. Literally 20-30 seconds later the rock took on a much greyer tone.
I've had a tough time getting the color just right on this image, but after several versions this is the final copy. It has taken some time to get just right.

Ha! Funnily enough I've just written you a note following your critique of my shot about the difficulty of getting the colour to look right!
Anyway, this image looks fantastic, and the composition is great. I guess it's the case that if you weren't actually there the colour balance isn't such an issue, and you, like me, have probably been agonising over several variations which, frankly, no-one else would notice or could eveb care about. So it goes.
I've been to the Alabama Hills - and they are truly fantastic - and what a backdrop to see from there.
I hope it's ok with you Jim, I'm going to add the image to my Rock Arches and Natural Bridges Group Theme. (If you've got anymore you can of course add them yourself!! :)
Regards
Colin

Hi
yes the colour is wonderful, and excellent composition - well worth getting up early for. I was wondering whether the background could tolerate a bit more sharpness - the focus is more on the arch than the background, which is as it should be, but the rocks towards the back look a little soft.
I guess this depends how you like it though.
Great shot, I love it
David
