A bridge with a view, a photo from Prague, Bohemia

Photographer's Note

Charles Bridge is a stone Gothic bridge that connects the Old Town and Malá Strana, crossing the Vltava river. It is said that egg yolks were mixed into the mortar to strengthen the construction of the bridge.

Charles Bridge has survived many floods, most recently in August 2002 when the country experienced the worst flood in the past 500 years - so the egg yolks must not have been such a bad idea.

This view shows the water wheel of the Grand Priory Mill on the Certovka (Devil's Creek) which separates Mala Strana from Kampa Island.

That is a perfect PoV to set off all the features here. I'm really amazed that I haven't seen this view before, given all the thousands of shots of around one of Europe's most frquented tourist attraction. Very well done indeed.

I love the light that reflects inder the Bridge from the waters reflections from the day light. very goo composition of the photo and well placed in the pict is the little row boat. Well done!

Prague est une des villes que j'aimerai visiter un jour.

Assez classique, mais super efficace.
L'endroit est beau et ca me rappelle une photo de Zépi du męme endroit, mais la nuit...ici.
Du détail dans les parties sombres, une bonne gestions des parties calires...bien fait.
Le cadrage est bien vu et le jeu de reflets est top.

Nice framing and an excellent catch of the reflections in the water. The depth is good in this shot and the arch frames the shot well. Nice sharpness and good quality to the image as well. The inclusion of the boat is an added touch that enhances the look of the scene.

Hi Andre - delightfully original one from Prague, even though this bridge is a well known monument, I have not seen such an angle before making it look like a venetian canal, maybe the smell prevented future generations from using egg yolk as a binder material.

quel week end fatiguant, un mariage etait au programme, donc pas eu trop le temps pour T.E. Quoi de mieux que de de ragarder cette image apres celle se Siolaw avec les petits vers frits ;o). Tu l'as cadre intelligement en utilisant cette voute pour en faire un cadre architecturale. La lumiere est geree a merveilles sur tout les niveaux, c'est d'une tranquilite a toutes epreuves.

Une tres belle composition avec un point de vue en profondeur et un cadre bien rempli, le dore de la reflection ressort bien de l'environnement sombre. Dingue de lire que t'as failli rencontrer Zepi !
T'as rate qqch c'est vraiment un personnage notre Zepi, pis en plus t'etais Nikoniste a l'epoque, il t'aurait pas balance dans la Vltava !

L'image a beaucoup de charmes...cette arche qui coiffe les facades et leur reflet,la barque,le lampadaire,tout et ŕ sa place,de plus l'exposition est parfaite avec des ombres lisible malgré le leget contre jour,bravo,
aucune chance que l'on ce soit croisé lŕ bas moi c'etait en 1995!

Cette image est parfaite. L'arc du pont cadre parfaitement l'image et la lumiere qui tombe sur les batiments est vraiment belle. L'image a ete tres bien exposee, malgre les conditions de lumieres difficiles. Et bien sur, les reflets sont top. Bref, de l'excellent travail.

This is indeed a marvellous framed shot Andre with the bridge non-sumetric as bordering to discover along the boat these facades and watermill, what a rustic view enhanced by the fine dominating yellow colortones.

Hi Andre. I picked this shot out of your excellent collection because I took one from almost the same spot many years ago, before the velvet revolution (I used to visit relatives in Ostrava and stop in Prague on the way out of the country). Really nice composition and tranquil mood that defies the fact there is busy city around about and above. The framing effect of the tree and bridge are very effective.

beautiful perspective the water wheel the houses and their reflection and giving the perfect touch to an idyllic setting the little boat resting against the bridge under the old world lamp, and the tree which looks like it is bending over to look at its reflection in the water.... Lovely!
