Photographer's Note
I went for a little trip in some remote inland areas where agriculture prevails over mass tourism (coastal areas).
At a certain point there were sugar cane, rice, bananas plantations and this agricultor came towards us.
He was carrying a big banana stem on his shoulder.
In the WS I put a tighter framing of the same picture. I was not sure which one is better (I chose this one because of the banana trees on the left side).
I am interested in knowing your opinion.
Hope you like it...

Hello Marilyn. I like this version as opposed to the workshop because of the wider view along the trail. The man is well in focus and the banana fields on the back create such a beautiful green background. I do remember what banana plantations look like and how exciting is to go and cut bananas during season. Thanks Marilyn.

Are you really going bananas for the stronger image?
Hello Marilyn! Cute title for uncertainty!
If I were to have taken the photo I believe that my choice would have been the workshop photo as it portrays the hard life that the man has endured to survive in today's lifestyle. Also, the deep lines in the man's face portrays long hours spent in the sun in his attempts to forge a living for himself and possibly his family. The close and personnal portrait wins my vote.
The horizontal image is a bit soft in its representation of a hard working man with such strength glowing from his face. I do like observing the jungle or plantation-s in the region you live, but with the topography and culture of the local peoples there is attached the labors they endure. Love the atmosphere of the humid jungle that we see here!
Above excellent portrait!!!

Hello Marilyn,
I have studied both versions of your photograph. They each portray a different message. If you want to concentrate on the personality and hardship of the man, you go for the w/s; if you want to show how he works and where he works, more of an environmental content, you go for this version.
My personal preference is for the w/s where the cragginess and personality shine through.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Superb daily life portrait, Marilyn. I might prefer this wider view, but I'm not sure at all, since I enjoy the closer details in WS, as well. I problably would do as you did. Love the curve of the road and the green background, but mostly the details of him carrying the bananas. Excellent compo with effective contrasts. Congratulations on this capture.
Have a nice weekend,

Hi Marilyn.
This is a fantastic documentation of your character's life. His looks and the power emitted from his eyes show the reality more..
The framing, including the banana plantations,
is excellent, as it gives more insight to the subject's actions portrayed in frame.
You have captured a beauty in moment..
KUDOS, dear Marilyn..

A great portrait in a lovey context, Marilyn. The pose is great and the green bananas give it a good point of interest and immediate context. The greenery looks fresh, lush and tropical > the rians have come, for sure. regards kevin

Hi Marilyn,
So Goa is not all about surf and beaches:) Excellent daily life capture, it seems monsoon has been around on the coast. I would prefer the WS for the details of the man it offers.
Best Wishes

bonjour marylin,

Cath.

Hello Marilyn!
Your capture is very touching concerning the plight of this man. That's the way we get a killo of banans for less than an euro...
Both cropped and uncropped versions are masterpieces.

Salut Marilyn,

Great portrait. Everything concerning the technicals is great - colors, background, DOF, composition, sharpness - all excellent. The mans expression is very interesting and the overall mood is again excellent. Great catch with this one.
I think I like the original more than the WS but just my personal taste.
Great Work.

Hola Marilyn.
Honestly I prefer the original version instead the WS because in this one you have a wider view of the surroundings, the road plus the beautiful banana trees and the coconut trees producing a better composition. Also we are able to see very well the expression of the worker as we see it in the WS. This is my humble opinion. Well done. TFS.
Best regards.
Have a nice week.

Bonsoir Marilyn

Hope you like it? Yes, I like it a lot!

Hello Marilyn,
I like the composition and the strong personality you capture!
The winding road gives the situation a history, and narrow DOF blurs the background nicely...
Good natural colours and fine details!
Greetings,

PS
Personally I prefer this to give more surroundings, but the difference is minor

this sequence is untouchable. I like all of them, showing this old man carrying his bananas. POV is perfect and the background very suitable to the purpose. Sharpness efficient and nice DOF. Great work on those ones!

Hi Marilyn. I like this shot the best out of your three main posts of this man (and the WS post) as the background provides the perfect context for this shot, and your focus on the man (perfect sharpness I should add) puts the background a little out of focus to just the right extent. An excellent photograph in all respects. Cheers . . . David
