Photographer's Note

Moliceiro is the name given to boats circulating in the Ria de Aveiro, lagoon region of Rio Vouga. This vessel was originally used for the harvesting of moliço, but currently most used for tourism.

It is one of the ex-libris of Aveiro, together with the “Ovos Moles” and the University of Aveiro. Among the boats typical of the region, the moliceiro is considered the most elegant, despite the decoration color and humorous, is a boat to work for the harvesting of moliço, which was the pricipal source of adubagem on agricultural land, Aveiro.

These are boats of low edge to facilitate the loading of moliço. The Moliceiro have a bow and a very elegant stern which normally are decorated with paintings that make fun about situations of daily life. The total length is about 15 meters, a width of 2.50 meters mouth. Sail into little time to water. The castle's bow is covered. As a means of propulsion uses a candle, and sirga edge. The sirga is a cable that uses the passage of the channels closer or at the margins, when navigating against the current or against the wind. It is built in wood of pine.
