The Eagletail Mountains Wilderness (97,880 acres) in Arizona is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. In 1990, the Eagletail Mountains Wilderness became part of the now over 109 million acre National Wilderness Preservation System established by the Wilderness Act of 1964.

At the north edge of Phoenix and Peoria recreation and usefulness combine in the form of Lake Pleasant. Useful because it's the Central Arizona Project's main reservoir for the irrigation water it supplies. Recreation for its boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking opportunities.

Just outside the boundaries of Lake Pleasant Regional Park, on BLM land, is Indian Mesa. At its summit are the ruins of an ancient Native American settlement. The summit is a protected archeological site.

At the northeast end of Grand Canyon National Park, where it butts up against the Glen Canyon Recreation Area to the north and the Navajo Reservation to the east Cathedral Wash is a seasonal tributary to the Colorado River. Located between Navajo Bridge and Lees Ferry the hike to the Colorado River is through a slot canyon.

Part of the Vermilion Cliffs National Monument, Coyote Buttes is an area of deep sand and fantastically eroded multi-hued sandstone. Access is allowed by permit only and only 20 permits are issued for a day.
