The camel fair at Pushkar has to be one of the most amazing sights on Earth. Each year, at the time of the full moon of Kartik Purnima, hundreds of thousand of nomads, pilgrims and tribal people converge on the small town for a week of trading (in camels) and bathing (in the sacred lake). Stretched across the desert on the edge of town, the sound of thousands upon thousands of belching camels has to be heard to be believed. (24 photos)

The Dussehra festival celebrates the victory of the God Ram over the demon king Ravan. In towns and cities across India the story of the Ramayana is told by troupes of actors, huge effigies of the demons are built and then destroyed and children are dressed as the main characters from the tale.

The beautiful carvings on the Stupa at Sanchi along with the rock paintings dotted around the caves and river valleys of M.P and Rajasthan offer a fascinating insight into the past. Here we may see scenes from everyday life as it took place thousands of years ago. The Buddhist artisans and the tribal painters were trying to achieve something not so different from what we, as photographers, do today. (4 photos)
